Crinone 8%® (progesterone gel) is a bioadhesive progesterone gel provides luteal phase support for pregnancy and it is used in assisted reproductive technologies (ART). The Crinone 8 gel is administered once the embryo is transferred into the uterus and the application of the Crinone 8 gel might be continued for up to 12 weeks till the progesterone production by the placenta reaches the required levels. The Crinone 8% gel is applied daily with a prefilled vaginal applicator to ensure that the patient is comfortable.
Crinone 8 Works as Artificial Progesterone in the body
The body needs progesterone to prepare the uterine lining for embryo implantation and to maintain pregnancy in the luteal phase support where the placenta is developed. The hormone is produced by corpus luteum in the luteal phase of menstrual cycle in the first 8 weeks of pregnancy. The pregnancy is supported by the placenta by production of increasing amounts of progesterone. By use of Crinone 8 the body can sufficiently support the pregnancy even if the natural production of progesterone is low in the body.
Common Crinone 8 side effects may include:
* Injection site pain
* Lower abdomen tenderness
* Fluid retention
* Headache
* Emotional irritability
* Breast discomfort
