A LH urine sticks are designed to detect a rise in luteinizing hormone (LH) which determines and detects the signals when the ovary is ready to release the egg. The LH urine sticks can be easily used at home by women who wish to predict their ovulation cycle. This test is taken to determine when a woman will ovulate and it could also be used to determine if a person needs adjustment of certain medications.
More information on the LH Urine Sticks
A LH urine stick is used for taking a test that predicts ovulation and a pack usually comes with five to seven sticks. To detect the surge in LH, one may need to test for about seven days. It also depends on the length of a woman’s menstrual cycle and the time of the month that she starts testing her LH levels, for instance- if a woman’s normal menstrual cycle is 28 days she would need to test it on day 11 after she last got her period.
The procedure of testing involves peeing or urinating on the stick or adding a few drops of urine to the stick. If the indicator on the stick changes its color or displays a positive sign, then surge is detected. A positive result means that you should ovulate in the next 24 to 36 hours- but this could also not be the case for all women. Usually the LH Urine sticks come with instruction booklet and has all the information one requires. It should be noted that if you are testing on a regular basis but miss a day, you may miss your surge. Women with irregular menstrual cycle may also miss recording their surge.
Preparing for the test
You should not drink large amounts of fluids before using the test. If you are taking any prescriptions, then you should consult a doctor whether you should stop taking certain drugs before using this test as certain drugs can decrease LH measurements which include estrogens, progesterone and testosterone. Incase if you do not get pregnant even after using an ovulation prediction kit for several months, it is recommended that you should contact an infertility specialist.
