Gonal is a highly consistent recombinant human follicle-stimulating hormone (r-hFSH), Filled by Mass (FbM). This hormone is prescribed by doctors for infertility treatment in both men and women and it is used to supplement or replace the natural FSH. The medication Gonal 300 has been approved in over 90 countries worldwide both in Europe and the US as the medication has shown indications of stimulation of the growth of ovarian follicles and ovulation in women. It is the most popular and widely prescribed gonadotropin in the world.
The role of human FSH in the body
Human follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) causes development of follicles in the ovaries. This is an important step for creation and development of mature oocytes (eggs) that are capable of being fertilized. FSH also helps in production of healthy spermatozoa in men. Low or lack of secretion of human FSH is a major cause of infertility.
Gonal 300 Prefilled Pen
The GONAL-f (FbM) Prefilled Pen has a user friendly design that helps in self-administration by the patient. It does not need reconstitution or cartridge assembly into the injection device, and it decreases the steps that a person needs to take before injection. The design of the device also ensures an accurate dose.
It is available in three multidose presentations (300, 450 and 900 IU) allowing individualized dosing of r-hFSH to individual patient needs in both OI (Ovulation Induction) and ART (Assisted Reproductive Techniques).
Caution while using Gonal 300
Gonal 300 is a potent gonadotropic substance and it can cause mild to severe adverse reactions, including Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) in women with or without pulmonary or vascular complications, and multiple births. Gonal-f® is contraindicated in women who exhibit prior hypersensitivity to FSH preparations, primary gonadal failure, uncontrolled thyroid or adrenal dysfunction and pregnancy. Nursing women should not use Gonal-f®. Some of the common side effects include headache, abdominal pain, enlarged abdomen, and injection site disorders.
