Follistim pen is an injection device that offers an accurate, discreet and safe method of self injection. Follistim AQ Cartridge with Follistim Pen provides women with a convenient technique to self-administer the FSH with confidence and ease. The pre-mixed solution in the Follistim AQ cartridge helps in the induction of ovulation in patients who are infertile due to reasons other than primary ovarian failure. The Follistim pen comes with a fingertip dial-a-dose feature which is easy to dial and injects accurate dosage every time. It is completely portable and has a BD Micro-Fine needle that provides comfortable injection.

Using Follistim Pen

Before using the pen, you first need to insert prefilled Follistim AQ Cartridge into the pen and attach BD Micro fine needle, and then dial the prescribed dose. After dialing the correct dosage, you can push Injection button to administer the medication. When used for ovulation induction, the starting dose of 75UI or lower is prescribed for a minimum of first seven days of treatment with adjustment at weekly interval, based upon patient’s response.

Storage of the pen

Follistim pen can be stored at 2 to 8⁰ C until expiry date, or at 25⁰ C for three months. Once the rubber made inlay of Follistim Cartridge has been cut by needle, the pen can be stored for maximum of 28 days at 2 to 25⁰ C. Do not freeze the product and protect it from light.

Precautions while using the pen

One should not use this drug if she is suffering from primary ovarian failure, have tumors or if she is already pregnant. Never change dosage of Follistim pen unless suggested by the physician as this may sometimes result in multiple pregnancy. The best idea is to keep an everyday journal of injections and notify your doctor immediately if you experience vomiting, pelvic pain or nausea after using pen. Use the drug at the same time daily.
